When freshmen arrive at Mizzou, having a welcoming guide can make all the difference in beginning their college journey. Emily Mahler, Freshman Interest Group (FIG) instructor, has been that guide for countless students, inviting them into the classroom with a comforting presence, instructing with confidence.

As a mentor, she has helped plan and teach the FIG she is a part of, putting careful thought and intentionality into how she collaborates with both students and other instructors.

The other mentors she assists describe her as an encouraging and thoughtful leader, providing advice and support when needed. Over the years, those she works alongside have continued to feel supported, recognizing that the strength in their partnership has grown.

Because of Mahler, others feel confident and ready for their roles. Their confidence in the classroom and in supporting students with optimism continues to grow.

Even with a hectic schedule, Mahler consistently gives her full effort to support her colleagues. She approaches every situation with kindness and understanding, helping others feel at ease so they can better learn and apply the information she provides.

Those who work with Mahler describe the experience as rewarding, noting that she makes people feel both welcomed and supported. In her FIGs, she continues to create a classroom environment that is both meaningful and enjoyable.
